Café Clémentine - Moncton

Two of my favorite things on this earth are coffee and food, and this charming neighbourhood café serves it all up with an ambiance that can't be beat. The spacious café has eclectic design ans is painted in sunny citrus tones. When you walk into Café Clementine, you can expect to see owner, Clement greet you from behind the counter, with a bouncy smile that exudes energy and calm. "I like being behind the counter and serving clients," he confides, "It makes me happy..."

Everything on the menu is fresh and top quality. Meats are local and flavourful, the bread comes from my favorite organic bakery (Hofer's German Bakery) in Dieppe makes fresh organic breads), the smoothies are made with cider from a local orchard (La Fleur du Pommier) makes THE best cider and a really awesome strawberry jam that you can get at the Moncton or Dieppe farmers market) and the orange juice is fresh pressed.

You'll find all the café staples: moist muffins, tasty cookies and treats, and coffee just the way you like it, from americano to a creamy latté. The shop also offers a variety of local teas,served to go or in a teapot if you're in the mood to have a long heart-to-heart. If you're in the mood for breakfast, try the bagel and eggs on Montréal's famous St. Viateur bagels, or a nutella banana panini hot of the press. If you're popping in for lunch, try the smoked salmon bagel (St. Viateur bagel, cream cheese, fresh smoked salmon, dill, and red onions, tomatoes and a wedge of lemon to garnish to your liking) with a chockpish salad (mixed greens, goat cheese, chick peas, and a sweet curry dressing) or a 'Panini quattro fromagi' which includes goat, swiss, havarti and cheddar and tomato, melted to sweet perfection, with a soup of the day on the side, made with love by the staff.

The coffee shop is the perfect reflection of the Sunny Brae neighbourhood, which sits right next to the University of Moncton. Sudents, families, professors and on weekdays, you'll find the the regulars laughing on the sunny veranda. The ambiance at the café is what keeps me coming back time and again. I love walking there on saturday morning: I know there will always be more than one person to sit with and chat. The coffee shop is divided into two areas, one with tables that invite the conversation to spread, the other with sofas and a fooseball table, a perfect mix of privacy and social. And while you're at the coffee shop, stop by Moncton's new upcycled and decor shop, Carte Blanche) located in a decadent old house right next door!
